Just tried Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood lather for the showtime fourth dimension. What a pleasant surprise, information technology lathered rather easily providing a luxurious lather which resultd in a fantastic shave. I volition have to try it further but I believe it is only as proficient if non superior to my Tabac and MWF. I have tried TOBS shaving creams before and found them to exist merely O.K. simply this soap is by far superior to their creams in my stance. It would be interesting to see what others say well-nigh the TOBS shaving soaps. One thing in my favor is that, I accept soft water and this can brand a big difference. YMMV.

Soft water makes a huge divergence in the quality of lather from a difficult soap IMHO. I utilise difficult soaps most of the time and using distilled water has really made a big difference. Most hard soaps practise actually well if they are made in a quality manner even the veggie based ones similar Trumper. The tallow based and stearate based hard soaps volition e'er outperform their veggie counterparts all else being equal IMHO only that doesn't hateful that you can't go an excellent shave from a veggie based soap.

For Tabac I suggest using less soap when loading. Go on trying less in successive shaves until you've hitting optimum lather. It actually does lather excellently with very little production. The veggie soaps seem to need more than to become there with the soap then sometimes that perspective can throw folks off when switching between them.

I too have TOBS sandalwood soap and beloved information technology. Mine is in the nice wooden basin, which is a groovy bargain at around $15 (call back I got mine from Amazon).

I bowl soap it with a Simpson Emperor ane in Best. I'm nonetheless working on developing the optimum lather with it, which I ordinarily measure by how successfully I tin blade buff without discomfort.

At present this thread has me interested in trying the cream!

I used the cream from tobs and today I got my lather in the post. Big deviation in the olfactory property, why is this? I noticed the soap says herbal and the cream does not.

I as well love my TOBS Sandalwood soap. Recently got the refill puck, trimmed the edges and stuck it into my Quondam Spice Shaving Mug (edges included). Great stuff

Honestly, information technology is hard to depict just the best I can practise is this:
The Foam smells creamy in a sweet sort of way. The Soap smells more like an spice.
Both do smell like but the soap to me smells stronger in a nutmeg(i think) kind of way. If someone tin describe this amend than me please do. This may but be considering 1 is liquid and the other is dry/ I am going to try information technology tomorrow nighttime I withal accept my center set on using Wool Fat for tonight. Hopefully someone can tell u.s. from their experience if the scents once lathered are closer to each-other or not. If someone can answer information technology I may effort to trade it in the merchandise forums for a Wool Fat dish I'one thousand hooked on the soap.

Cheers, CyiDev! I practice believe I sympathize your description. And it may be that the moisture in the foam blends the spiciness. Similar to making curry; if you fry the powder in a niggling butter before adding to the dish you get a ameliorate blending of the scents; cooks out the rawness.

Just an update here, my new omega brush came in the mail today and so I tried out the Sandalwood. I soaked the brush in regular tap water shampooed it, then rinsed with tap water flicked it dry and used distilled water. Busted out the sandalwood puck and swirled information technology and did not retrieve the leather was decent considering information technology was all foamy with a big amount of air bubbles. I added information technology to my bowl anyways, added a cap total of distilled water and worked it for under 2 minutes and it was perfect. The smell did even out and was non identical to the cream but very very close and was an enjoyable odour.

I have to post in here again, sorry to anyone getting tired of this topic. This soap today reminded me of my father's hairdresser from when I was little. The aroma of the sandalwood and calorie-free boar scent ( I de skunked information technology) smelled just like the barber store. Very clean and full of memories. I am non parting with this soap even though the bowl it came in is to small imho.

I've only shaved couple times with the lather merely i have to say information technology has become one of my favorites. I accept always liked Tabac every bit it's so piece of cake to piece of work with and has no problems with hard water, but now that i got myself a refill puck this might be even better to shave with.

Merely thing is the scent of the soap. I don't get any sandalwood scent from it. I practise smell citrus and some herbal scents and other simply that'due south it. My favorite sandalwood scented soap is Proraso Red but it'south soap isn't so slick as TOBS's shave soap.

I have both the Sandalwood and Jermyn Street soaps by TOBS. I remember the Sandalwood soap is vastly superior to the Jermyn Street lather. I'g not certain why, but information technology my sandalwood soap creates a much richer lather and retains its scent far longer. Its hard to understand why in that location can be such a difference. I have both scents in the Cream bowls and find them both pretty very good. I also really like the Coconut and Mr. Taylors creams, non so much the scents, however I'm finding that scents in soaps and creams are not nigh as important to me as when I first started experimenting moisture shaving and trying different soaps and creams.

I plant this old thread through a Google search for reviews on this soap. I know TOBS difficult soaps don't get much attention hither, just well-nigh of the reviews I tin find are pretty good.

I was thinking virtually buying a refill puck considering I'thousand about out of my much dear AoS Sandalwood (tallow). Since both soaps seem to use the aforementioned basin, I thought I might try TOBS Sandalwood. Plus, my wife loves this little teak bowl and likes to display it on the bath counter! So I'm going to refill information technology with something.

Anyone have much experience with TOBS Sandalwood soap?

I merely switched out my TOBS Jermyn St for the Sandalwood soap. What a production!! I had such a hard time with Jermyn just this Sandalwood was easy to load and had the slickness and protection I was expecting to get. Mine is also a refill, not that it should brand a departure, only the quality is certainly in that location. Information technology'southward unremarkably not that expensive either and so you won't be out much for trying it ... though I doubt you'll exist disappointed.

Thank you Jgia. I went ahead and purchased the TOBS Sandalwood difficult lather, and I'chiliad thankful I did. It performs beautifully. For me, its all-time qualities are the odour and post shave feel. I apply difficult soaps pretty much exclusively, and I would probably rank TOBS Sandalwood #3 all time for me - subsequently Valobra and MWF.

Even though it doesn't lather quite as well as some other highly regarded soaps like DR Harris and Haslinger, I prefer TOBS over them because the mail shave feel is so perfect for my face. I recollect I'one thousand at a point in my shaving career where post shave feel is the almost important quality a soap can take, and TOBS has information technology :001_cool:
